CYCLONE IDAI’S IMPACT – AN UPDATE FROM MOZAMBIQUE

Since Cyclone Idai tore through Mozambique, we have published a number of extra newsletters updating you on how our students in Beira are doing. Many of you have responded and your generous donations have made it possible for us to help our students get back on their feet. Gitta and Harrie have travelled to Mozambique to help hands-on with making the houses habitable again. They are also making sure the students get good meals. This will help to prevent the students’ health from deteriorating even further. This update features a letter of thanks from our students to all of you. The letter, printed below in unabridged and unedited form, was read out by Abrao Fernando Abrao (a 4th-year student) during one of the communal meals.

Doctors for Mozambique Foundation

First of all, we would like to greet every member of doctors for Mozambique Foundation and we hope you all are fine.

We write this latter to inform that fortunately we are fine and our academic activities are running but not in the expected way, due to the Cyclone that destroyed our home, and some parts of the faculty. Many machines are completely not able to be used, but we are trying to get back to the previous situation.

In this month we stayed with Dr. Harry and Gitta, who demonstrated through their worries and help, the feelings of all the members of DFM regarding the situation of Cyclone IDAI we passed through.

Therefore, we received your help from the beginning with an aid of extra money of 5000MZN in our subsidy, that helped a lot as the prices of goods in markets had increased more than 100%.

As Dr. Harry and Gitta arrived they helped as much more with food, supplements, computers, clothes, rebuilding destroyed houses we are renting, materials for practical lessons in Hospital such as stethoscope, gloves, masks, thermometer blood pressure monitors and these are crucial materials for us.

All you are doing are priceless things, we are all heartedly thankful for all you have being doing to Support us in every needs we have.

We would like to ask you to keep on supporting Mozambican Young in needs, in Education Specially in Heath area.

With nothing else to add, we would like to say: Thank You a Lot!
