My name is Carlos Samussone Samuel, I am 18 years old and I will be 19 this year. I am from Chimoio. I started studying in 2013 from the first grade to the seventh grade at the Fepom complete primary school, and I started studying from the 8th to the 10th grade at the Fepom secondary school, and I finished the 11th and 12th grades at the Teresa Amuli secondary school but outside the city of Chimoio. I have lived with my great-grandfather since I was born, but it is already customary for me to call him grandfather and then my mother also lived in the same house. The reasons were that I had not met my father and not my paternal family, not some people from my paternal family. Anyway we lived with my grandparents and my mother. My mother tried to help my grandfather by selling cabbage. My grandfather is a doctor from the colonial era, he does not work by the state, but the people who come to my house and then talk about their symptoms of the disease they have. My grandfather prescribes the medicine at the pharmacy and then he reads and applies those medicines and agriculture to be able to help support the family.

I am the first-born, after me comes a girl, two more boys, total we are 4 children. Throughout my academic career my mother got married, and she took care of us as children and sometimes went to stay at my mother’s house, but my mother’s husband always had a tendency to bother her about our stay. There were already problems because of that. My mother made the decision for me to go to study at my uncle’s house in the district of Mossurize where I finished the 11th and 12th grade. But life was never easy. It was there that I felt what it was like to be treated badly, to walk 17 km to be able to get to the farm and come back with some luggage. It was not easy and I talked to my mother, she always motivated me and told me to be strong at least to finish, and seeing the situation I found myself in I started to dedicate myself a lot to my studies. I also had help from my friends who already understood some things and so I managed to finish the 11th and 12th grade. At the end of the third quarter, I received news from my school that DFM is offering a scholarship to students who have taken advantage of it, and that’s why I could also apply and thanks to my good God, I’m already here. That’s why I see it as the only opportunity that God gave me, and I intend to take it with all my hands and dedication.
